Memorial Day

Growing up we always used to visit the cemetery in Salt Lake City on Memorial Day to put flowers on the graves of many of the relatives on my mom's side of the family.  I haven't done that since I've been married since we haven't been in Utah, but I always think of my grandma on Memorial Day.  I still miss her.  She was a great lady who taught me a lot about hard work and toughing things out.  She loved learning and serving others and I loved her for that.

On Memorial Day the kids and I "took a hike"....literally and figuratively.  Jeff had to work...booo...hissss.  He was up against a deadline (still is actually) and since he was busy working at home it was easier for the rest of us to get out of the house.  We went to a park in Mahwah and played a little and then took a hike around Lake Henry.  It was an easy leisurely walk that involved some mud, rock throwing, sticks, turtle sightings, fish touching, and shell collecting.  It was lots of fun.

Then afterwards we went to some friends house for a BBQ and s'more making.  It was a fun day and the kids loved having the day off school.
